Poem from a Northern Ireland Football supporter

In honour of Northern Ireland National Team making the EURO 2016 finals, I wrote this poem last year as a supporter. First published on Facebook back in 2016, this is the first time I have shared else where.

Qualifying is over,
the players were tested,
three teams went through
now lets get them rested.

Over 30 years,
the wait is over,
our wee nation,
has had a makeover.

From Jennings to Carrol,
Healy to Grigg,
even the green n white army
has grown pretty big.

This is the time,
were we can stand tall,
and be proud in our lads
as they answer our call.

Belfast to Newry,
and all round France,
we the green and white army
will sing our chants.

Ulster till I die and
Spirit in the sky,
they will ring out loud
from our travelling crowd.

Calm your nerves,
and enjoy the moment,
you put the hard work in,
it’s what you deserve.

Undefeated,
12 in a row,
your the in form team
and it shows.

The time is now,
it’s June 2016.
Let’s make history.
Sing ‘God save our Queen’.

When the whistle blows,
we will be there,
look to the stands,
and you will know we care.

Northern Ireland…
Northern Ireland…
Northern Ireland…
