Hey Asher, great point! I think it points out our (Netflix users’) own cognitive biases. I’ve spoken to colleagues, our opinion of many Netflix-produced series goes something like this:
“Ah the series is pretty good, not great but pretty good. You kinda have to root for Netflix don’t you?”
For me as a user, I love how affordable it is and how great the user experience is. When my partner and I want a quiet night in, we plan to Netflix-and-chill, and we’re not the only ones!
Perhaps the underdog, brand presence of Netflix has it’s users rooting for their self-produced shows (more so than the impartial critics) and this might explain the incongruity of the ratings.
