We’ve been subsidizing (and later on guaranteeing) mortgages, nationwide, since the Depression.
Daniel Pecoraro

This article wasn’t about mortgages straw man. It was about apartments shortages leading to higher rents which is in general a coastal urban problem, which as I said is a problem partly caused by rent stabilized apartments, because when you force a property owner to keep rents stable, not simply allowing the market to determine the prices, what you get is property owners attempting to maximize profits with other apartments, and jacking up prices when a rent stabilized apartment becomes free again. Also with regards to your point, just because it’s been done for a 100 years doesn’t make it right, there’s laundry lists of things that were done for hundreds of years that were very wrong.
