Breakbeats & Rhymes is a radio show on KPFK that airs every Saturday from 12- 2 am. The show is hosted by DJ Luman and Rebels To The Grain, who is an artist himself. The show provides Hip-Hop listeners from “Los Angeles to Worldwide” with an alternative selection of artists that commercial radio stations don’t. As they recycle the same 3 songs to the point of cruel and unusual punishment. Breakbeats & Rhymes also reaches its community beyond the airwaves. The show recently put on a free, all-ages event in DTLA on June 8th and had a tour in 2015. Breakbeats & Rhymes is instrumental in creating a Hip-Hop community in Los Angeles, as they attract artists from across the world, including the-late-great Prodigy. It gives local artists from LA the opportunity to showcase their talents to a larger audience. I believe Breakbeats & Rhymes is instrumental in creating a-much-needed underground LA Hip-Hop scene.
