According to prosecutors, all six counts relate to the hijacking of Hornbeck. On April 16, Washington County prosecutor John Rupp filed fresh charges against Devlin, criminating him of tried murder, hijacking , fortified felonious action, three counts of forcible sodomy and one count of tried forcible sodomy.

Michael John Devlin was found guilty of the kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted murder of two girls in the 1980s. The first girl was kidnapped from a suburban street in Leeds on 16 November 1983. The second girl was kidnapped from a village near Doncaster on 14 September 1984.

Devlin had been identified as a suspect by police in 1986 but they were unable to gather enough evidence to charge him with either offence. He was arrested again after DNA evidence linked him to both crimes in 2006 and he pleaded not guilty at his trial at Sheffield Crown Court in 2008.

He is currently serving life imprisonment for the crimes he committed against these two girls and will not be eligible for parole until 2035, when he will be 73 years old.
