“Divorce isn’t normal Christabelle, and it’s not funny.”

My mothers exact words rang through my ears before I braved my first comedy set in front of strangers at a local bar. I was the only female comic on the show, which would be a common occurrence going forward in my next 4 months of comedy. My set was not exclusively about divorce, but also about the series of hilarious dating events that followed it. Comedy was something I watched to escape the painful reality of my life falling apart before my eyes. She had shamed me and called me a witch over my separation. Her words…
