It’s very healthy at this point for Progressives to be analytical and self critical and even lashing out at each other because they’ve got a lot of re-building to do. This is the time for fearless deep thought.
But I think there needs to be a limit to self recrimination and navel gazing. The Left seems to be currently of the view that what has happened politically in 2016 was all their own fault. We’ve blown it. We got it all wrong. We didn’t understand the electorate. We’re hopelessly divided. Clinton is to blame. Obama is to blame. Bernie Sanders is to blame. Warren is to blame. As if the Right didn’t play a devious hand in this too.
The one thing I’ll say about the Right, is that they have no such failure of nerve. If things go wrong it is the other side that’s in the firing line. They don’t get nearly so absorbed in self doubt or recrimination when they fail. They blame the other side.
The loss of manufacturing jobs in Mid West towns was a result of globalisation, fostered more than anyone by Conservative ideology. How ironic that it is the other side of polics that is blaming itself totally for the political fall out.
