Thanks Joe. I understand that. But please note that some of your readers (I would suggest quite a lot) would automatically read into it that you incline towards socialism as a counterpoint, the inference being that this would solve the human predicament. I’m as critical of the cancerous nature of capitalism as you are but a huge range of factors that are bringing on the end of civilisation as we know it — such as exponential population growth, resource consumption and carbon pollution–are a consequence of technological change and consumer habits and these factors are not exclusive to capitalism.
We don’t quite know if a sustainable economy is possible and what it would look like. All we can say is that the existing world economy pivots around the need for sustained growth and as this inevitably slackens we will see an almight econmic collapse. Will be fascinating to see what other economic models may replace what we have now.
