But, I do have a bone to pick on one strand of your essay, Ugo. That one et of doubters of renewable energy are wrong because, as you put it: “Here, in part we are dealing with people who can’t conceive a world different than the one they are used to.”
I think that’s rather unkind. What’s really going on is that people like me are trying to wake up society to the realisation that the renewable energy fix is not a fix at all unless we conceive a society that’s very different to the status quo. Right now we are hurtling down the road to massive investments in renewable technologies in a vain attempt to keep a non-sustainable society powered up. Most of society has latched onto that head space out of wishful thinking.
My caution is not ‘anti-renewable’. It is a necessary antitote to the popular and very pervasive and dangerous societal meme that we can have our cake and eat it to.
