In many democracies it’s possible to get the higher number of seats but not necessarily the popular vote. In Australia, who get’s elected is predicated on winning a few ‘marginal seats’ and so both major parties focus like hell on those seats.

Yes, Clinton did get a higher number of votes, and this helps to offset the Value of trump’selection little bit, but really neither was popular. The electorate was in a grumpy mood.
