After last week, when Google had already announced a Snowflake Migration Assessment, they have now also announced the BigQuery Migration Assessment for Apache Hive in preview mode. You can use this feature to assess the complexity of migrating data from your Apache Hive Data Warehouse to BigQuery[1].

With BigLake, Google offers you the access to Google internal storage as well as cross-platform data such as Microsoft Azure or AWS within BigQuery using SQL very easily and without having to cache it. This is a great benefit, since you do not have to duplicate your data in two separate environments and create data silos. Furthermore, you also have the possibility of backing-up your data governance, since with BigLake you can additionally assign rights to the data. For Hive, they also added a BigQuery Open Source Connector.
