Here Is What It’s Like To Own A Japanese Muscle Car

The last time I drove 150 mph…

…was in a Lexus IS-F. It was at a Motor Press Guild track day event, held at Willow Springs International Raceway north of Los Angeles. Lexus brought the IS-F for journalists to drive, and so that’s what I did.

On a flat stretch of desert road near the track, I floored the IS-F and kept it that way until the speedometer read 150. That’s the fastest I’ve ever driven on a public road. Before that, my record was an indicated 140 mph in a damn ’97 Lincoln Mark VIII. I shit you not.

Recently, I had a chance to sample the Lexus GS F and RC F at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, east of L.A. The RC was better connected, but the GS was my favorite. It was a little looser at the limit, heightening the excitement level. Plus, it has four doors, and I’ve got kids, so I’d much rather drive the GS F.

You can read my reviews of both cars on Autoweb.com.

I always liked the Lexus IS-F, the precursor to the Lexus LFA, the first of the company’s F and F Sport models that are designed to show that Lexus builds something more exciting than the ES and RX real estate-agent specials.

There is more to come on that front. After all, just look at the gorgeous Lexus LC 500.
