A lot of things in this article spoke to me. I think it came up on my feed because I am the parent of a child with anorexia and so I have seen from the outside what her struggles look like and how you can’t just snap out of it.

secondly I was interested in what you said about ‘perfect’ Christians. I grew up in a traditional Highland church where there was a lot of emphasis on sin and judgement. So nobody thought they were perfect unless they could be mysteriously transformed by God in a Saul on the road to Damascus experience. I went to university and mixed with people from different backgrounds and met young, apparently perfect and happy Christians, but the pressure was too much for me. I struggled with depression. I’d never be like them and I eventually dropped out of church and religion altogether until in an unexpected twist I started going to Catholic Mass almost twenty years later. If you’re interested, I’ve blogged a bit about this here (and in the next 3 posts) https://scotinprogress.com/2015/10/27/dont-go-to-church/ Don’t go to church is partly tongue in cheek.
