An easy two player game involving 1 deck of cards that you can learn in 30 seconds. Each round of play lasts approximately 5 minutes.

California speed starting position (no pairs present)

Set Up:

Divide the deck evenly between two players, removing jokers.

Goal:

First person to run out of cards wins.

Scoring:

Each player places four cards in a row in front of them, creating a combined 2x4 matrix. If a pair is present among any of the eight cards, you and your opponent race to place a card on top. If your opponent beats you, you must withdraw your card. Continue laying down cards until there are no more pairs.

Race to play cards over the pair of 9s

Each player then picks up all the cards in the row in front of them (originating from the initial four cards). Add the cards to the bottom of your deck and lay down four new cards to begin another round. The decks will begin to grow uneven if one person is able to spot pairs faster. The game ends after one person successfully runs out of cards.

Hints:

If there is a triple, you may place cards on all three cards. If there is no pair immediately, simply take the cards back and reset for another round.

Place down the four initial cards simultaneously with your opponent. Placing them early yields an unfair advantage.
