As a commuter student, I often find myself doing homework for many hours at school before heading home. One of my favorite activities is hunting for the perfect study spot. Below, I have rated the spots I frequently visit based on their quietness, comfort, and space availability. Despite being a smaller campus, I enjoy wandering around and exploring new places to study.

Casey Building: 9/10

This cozy spot was discovered after I was frantically looking for a quiet place for my Zoom meeting after my usual spot in Pigott got filled up. This is located on the first floor of the Casey Building and has windows aligned from floor to ceiling. When it’s sunny outside, natural light spills in, keeping you energized and awake while studying. There’s also a small garden with beautiful flowers, creating a tranquil environment.

Quietness: 9/10 — Of all the times I’ve been here, it hasn’t ever been busy and is always quiet with occasional people passing by

Comfortability: 6.5/10 — The wooden high chairs make me feel restless sometimes but there are some softer seating options

Space availability: 8/10 — There are usually not many people, so there are plenty of open tables and seats. However, it might not be great for larger group work because the tables are smaller.

SINE: 8.5/10

If you are looking for the nicest restrooms on campus, here is the place. I typically head up to the 4th or 5th floor. Besides the stunning campus views, the building and features are modern and aesthetically pleasing.

Quiet: 6.5/10 — It is an open space that is rather quiet with occasional people passing by

Comfortability: 8/10 — Lots of natural light, soft seating, and ample table space

Space availability: 7/10 — It offers various table sizes and sofas for group work or individual study, and although all spots can be filled up, they often aren’t.

Pigott Building: 7.5/10

What’s better than being able to study and get a cup of coffee and a bagel just two floors down? Pigott has The Bottom Line and a few open space study “rooms”.

Quiet: 2.5/10 — Very busy, many people going in and out of class. Noise-canceling headphones are a must, but in early mornings and late evenings it’s quiet

Comfortability: 7/10 — Ample table space, private rooms overlooking the PACCAR Atrium, and conveniently located near classrooms and The Bottom Line

Space availability: 2.5/10 — All the spots get filled up quickly unless you go early mornings, late evenings, or if you’re lucky, in between classes. There are only four private study rooms

Lemieux Library (individual study rooms): 3.5/10

I rate the library rooms poorly because they always make me feel sleepy and stuck in a jail cell, and they are typically my last resort spot for Zoom meetings.

Quiet: 9/10— Extremely quiet because it is located in the library. There is occasional noise from neighboring rooms’ Zoom meetings.

Comfortability: 3/10 — Ample table space and private rooms. However, there is no natural light. It is a great place for taking naps or crying during exam season.

Space availability: 7/10 — During midterms and finals it might be difficult to find open rooms, however, on usual days, I have no difficulty finding space

Bannan: 6.5/10

I got lost the first time I was in this building. However, after a while, I was able to navigate it much easier and discovered some neat study spots in Bannan.

Quiet: 8/10 — Not many people in the morning, but I haven’t been there in the afternoons or evenings

Comfortability: 7.5/10 — Ample table space, conference rooms, large windows

Space availability: 7/10 — Great place for group work, only 3 tables

Good Ole Fountain: 3/10

If you want to make the most of your tuition here at Seattle U, don’t forget to sit in EVERY study spot available, including outside in the fountain. Make sure you get your money’s worth because you are paying for it. Enjoy the picturesque college movie experience.

Quiet: 2.5/10 — Unless you like the noise of splashing water and people walking in between classes, it is rather distracting

Comfortability: 3/10 — Sitting on the hard cement isn’t very comfortable and being outside in Seattle weather kind of sucks sometimes. For me, it’s only enjoyable when it’s sunny and warm.

Space availability: 100/10 — Unlimited space. You might have to fight some pigeons though

Those were my ratings for various study spots I frequently visit. I’m excited to discover new places on campus!
