5 Best Tricks to Spice Up Your Workday
We all know that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So it should come as no surprise that if you are bored at work, you are also disengaged and not as productive as you could be. Here are a few ways to spice up your workday and get that mojo flowing.
If you are bored at work, you’re probably not alone! Sitting around dwelling on it is not going to make things any better. Go talk to your coworkers! Grab a cup of coffee, walk around, be social. Make plans to go out for lunch. If nothing else, socialize with your coworkers online. Collaboration gets people engaged and is never a waste of time!
Building positive workplace relationships is actually a vital piece of career success. Relationships at work affect your satisfaction with the job and your overall motivation. When you bond with the people you work with, you work better as a team and are more productive. Not to mention, it will leave you feeling happy and energized. Work will become more than just a way to earn a paycheck.
Most of us are constantly struggling to fit in a run or a visit to the gym with our hectic schedules. But there is actually a way to cram a little bit of exercise into the workday, and it can be fun to do it with your colleagues. Bicep curls with water bottles? Yoga poses on a break? Jumping jacks and a walk around the block? With a little bit of imagination, the sky is the limit.
Any physical exercise during the workday will definitely get your blood flowing and your energy levels up. And hey, if you want to take it to the extreme, check out this video (mind-blowing!). It’s no joke what kind of a workout you could theoretically get in during your workday.
3. Make Music a Part of Your Workday!
Music has a way of lifting your spirits and making you feel better, but it can also make you more productive. Some people may find it distracting, but for most people listening to music actually helps them focus. And then there’s the dopamine.
Ahhhh the dopamine. It will make you feel better and like you can tackle anything you’re faced with during your workday. If you don’t believe me, check out this article in the New York Times, “The Power of Music, Tapped in a Cubicle.”
Get your groove back with music. But if you’re in an open area, use your headphones. Your taste in music might not be entirely aligned with everyone else’s.
4. Adopt the 50/10 Strategy!
Does sitting in the same position for eight hours sound appealing? It does not! To anyone!
Breaking up your routines using the 50/10 strategy can do wonders for your productivity. While this method is usually associated with studying, there’s no reason it couldn’t be applied to the workday as well.
The first 50 minutes of each hour is dedicated to focused working, and the last 10 minutes for “resting.”
So, first, you make sure that you can focus 50 minutes on the task at hand. Resist the temptation to constantly check your phone and your computer for email notifications and social media engagements. As soon as you have reached the 50-minute mark, utilize the remaining ten minutes to do something that requires little or not focus.
Like checking your phone for messages, reading emails, chatting on social media or getting up and grabbing that refreshing beverage that is well overdue.
5. Negativity is a “No, No!”
Negative people have a way of draining your energy. So a simple way to keep your mojo is simply to stay away from negative people. Of course, there are times at work when you can’t avoid encounters with negative people, but surrounding yourself with positive people is the best way to keep your groove.
Positive people help each other out when faced with challenges, bringing solutions and ideas to the table. Essentially, they are great team players, and you want to be on their team. Finding a positive group of people to work with (or socialize with at work) is the final piece of the puzzle. Strive for teamwork with #Squadgoals.
Implement these five things and you will see how the workplace will transform into a place you actually want to be!
