Everyone knows of the towering heights that New York City is able to produce in its buildings. It has always been a staple of the city that there was some of the tallest buildings around, but over the past years the tallest buildings moved to other cities and countries. It is now time for New York to claim another “tallest building” once more. The Central Park Tower, aptly named has been revealed to be built next to Central Park.

The Tower is designed to be the tallest residential building in the world, which was previously held by 432 Park Avenue in 2014. The previous owners of the record was Dubai as they had multiple entries on the list. Central Park Tower is set to stand at 1,550 feet, where the Park Avenue was almost 1,400 feet in the air.

The firm behind this feat is Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill and have a knack for the tallest buildings. They designed the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia which is on track for being the tallest tower in the world, and is still under construction. Plans for the Central Park Tower building was originally proposed in 2012.

The tower will be located in “Billionaire’s Row” in Manhattan, near Central Park. The tower aims to have “Ultra-luxury condominiums” and a 285,000 square foot Nordstrom store. The store will be 7 stories tall and be a flagship offering from the company within the tower. Above which will be the condominiums. There will be about 179 units altogether in the tower. There will be plenty of amenities as well, which include a 15,000 square foot terrace, indoor and outdoor pools, and fitness centers. All are located on the 100th floor and are part of the 50,000 square footage of available amenities space.

The tower plans to be completed in the year 2020 along side the building of 111 West 57th Street, planned as the “skinniest skyscraper” as long as it gets completed after rumors of overspending. The Jeddah Tower is also expected to be completed in the same year to complete the firm’s tallest tower as well as residential tower.
