The Best Exercise For Developing Content Your Audience Will Love

Part of the focus of the article was the necessity of creating consistent content your audience will love, but some readers had told me that they often find themselves struggling to consistently create content let alone creating the kinds of content that their audience will love and engage with.

The Brain Dump

Brain dumping is the best exercise for generating content ideas

This was an exercise I was first introduced to during a writing class I took some years ago and when I started managing the social platforms of my clients I discovered a way to incorporate the exercise to develop an endless list of content ideas that my client’s audiences would love;

Meaning their willing to like, share, and engage with a high amount of the posts that we create. And that’s what you want right?!?

To do the brain dump is simple, all it requires is that you have a deep undersrtanding of your target audience.

You know the product or service you sell provides a solution to the problem they’re facing, but what else do you know about your target audience?

Do you know their interests?

Do you know their concerns?

Do you know how they think?

Do you know what they think about?

Do you know what they value in life outside of their career?

If you do, great!

If you don’t, do some research to gather that data and then come back to this part when your done!

Now that you have a deep understanding of your target audience here’s the fun part…

First, I want you to grab something to write with and jot down the following four categories:

  1. Interests
  2. Values
  3. Concerns
  4. Desires

Now that you’ve gotten the four categories down go back in each one and literally dump your brain out on the interests, values, concerns, and desires of your target audience.

Try your best not to put too much thought into it because the more things you can write down the better. If you’re struggling to write things down here are a few questions for each category that you can ask your self that will help you come up with ideas.


What books do they read?

Who are the influencers they follow on social media?

What podcasts do they listen to?

What do they like to do outside of work?


Are they spiritual?

If so, do they pray, go to church, meditate, do yoga ect.?

Do they value money over life experiences or visa versa?

Are they family oriented?


Do they care about the environment?

What social issues appeal to them?

Do they care about things that happen in other parts of the world?


Do they desire financial freedom?

Do they want to travel more?

Do they want more time to spend with their loved ones?

These are just a few examples, but the possibilities are literally endless when you do a brain dump and there is no wrong or right answer. Try to get a list of 20 different things in each category and once you’re done you’ll have an endless amount of ideas to create content from and more than likley you’ll continue to add to that list as you grow a larger following.

So there you have, thats the brain dump; simple right?!?
