Chris Hart’s Vegan Adventure

Day 1:

Today, like most days flowed on like a Monday river; slowly and confidently… Nevertheless, I decided the Sunday before to finally try something I have been wanting to change in my life for quite sometime. While those of you who know me, know that I am normally a healthy active person with a weekend fondness for libations and tobacco.

A weakness that developed during my formidable years in the United States Navy. While some may allege the military is mostly a positive step in one’s life, I am not exactly so sure as the years go by living my life as a civilian. Today, I totally take responsibility for my own actions, but the urge to drink, smoke, and, party in foreign lands was quite strong.

So solid that the tradition spilled over into my personal life to the point where sometimes enough is enough.

While I wouldn’t qualify myself as an addict, I would throw myself right into the binge category of sorts and realized that I wanted to perform athletically better as I got older (I’m 34) I also wanted to lose a bit of weight and not die from an aneurism in my late 30's.

My first scare happened 2 years ago in a CROSSFIT gym in South Florida. I was lifting some pretty heavy weight for my size, after my last rep I immediately felt a searing pain at the base of my neck reaching bilaterally to the left side of my skull… “I’m dying of a fucking aneurysm” I thought to myself…

While this warning sign scared the shit out of me, I took a week off of training, weekend booze, and, cigarettes. And thought “That should do the trick” To my surprise, the exertion headaches subsided and I got back to normal easing myself into a fitness regime during the week and partying during the weekends all over again.

Military men and woman think they are invincible.

Let me explain, in the military it is normal to run out on a Sunday night, get obliterated, show up on time for PT (Physical Training) at 0545 — 0600 in the morning and “sweat it out.” As long as you don’t puke in formation, have an asshole SNCO (Senior Enlisted or Manager) or a Blue Falcon (tattle tale) in your unit formation you are good to go.

While some may say that this type of behavior is frowned upon, more that we’re in the service will agree it definitely happens more than they would like to admit.

My second scare happened at the start of this month (July) and the excretion headaches just subsided this past week. With that said, change… Real change is in order. While I have been fairly safe with the smokes, the partying with friends was still pretty strong. Moreover, the eating of whatever I wanted was also potent and on Sunday, I decided to make a life altering decision.

I scheduled a Doctors appointment for my brain and lifestyle change, I also decided to go the route of a plant based diet. No meat, meat byproducts, or Dairy. Pretty much all the shit that is killing you and the environment slowly will be out of my diet for at-least 14 days. That’s the goal, 14 days without any Meat, Dairy, Nicotine, or Alcohol and for those wondering, coffee gets to remain lol.

today being my first day in his journey has been pretty great, it was easy to eat plant based in the morning and for lunch. I will include the dinner portion for tomorrow’s post. However, here was my daily intake:

Half a bagel with PB and Banana

Water

Coffee

Lunch:

Subway Veggie delight

On Italian bread

Baked Lays

Coke Zero

Dinner:

Home made burrito bowl or chipotle not sure what time I will get off work. (It’s 3:45pm now)

Tomorrow will start with my doctors appointment and more information for those that want to follow.

I have a hard road ahead of me but I will try and update this blog daily.

Cheers,

Chris.
