Mages of Mystralia is Adorable, If a Little Short
I just finished Mages of Mystralia, an adorable little number by Borealys Games, and I gotta tell ya, it’s the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long while.
The story goes that the Kingdom of Mystralia has been ruled by a long line of Mage-Kings since times immemorial. They’re a little like the Witch-King, except more nice and less dead.
These Mage-Kings commanded powerful magic and kept the kingdom safe from nasty monsters that would like nothing more than to ransack the village and feast on the flesh of the inhabitants. For hundreds of years, the people and kingdom were safe, but that all came to an end when the Mad King Aetius, following the death of his parents, tapped into the immense yet corrupting power of Celestial Magic to put an end to the monster threat once and for all.
He had the best of intentions (supposedly), but he was consumed by the power and went on a rampage. Several villages were burned to the ground, never to be rebuilt, and he killed all but a few Mages before being defeated by his former battle officers. The only officer to return from this fight was named the new ruler, the Marquis, who outlawed magic and decreed all Mages be killed on sight.
