I tried to read through part of the Sam Kriss’ article, but the spite and pettiness of it was too much to take. He comments that “Neil deGrasse Tyson is, supposedly, an educator and a populariser of science; it’s his job to excite people about the mysteries of the universe, communicate information, and correct popular misconceptions. This is a noble, arduous, and thankless job, which might be why he doesn’t do it.” But, NdT does make science more interesting and exciting. I had little to no interest in Physics as a kid, it and math were just boring equations and problems to solve that had no relation to my world; but watching NdT on Nova and Cosmos brought related all of that in a way that was exciting an engaging. Kriss is a nobody trying to make a name for himself with a poorly written hit job on an all-star. As I white man, I don’t tend to think of race when reading the Kriss article and tend to think instead of him just being a petty, little man; but, that’s because society allows me the privilege of not having to consider race. Thanks for putting this out there.
