Red Team vs. Blue Team

I think you’ve made an excellent point, and one not just applicable to America. Britain isn’t quite as bipartisan as the States but most vote Conservative or Labour on tribal grounds and one of these parties wins on the basis of how well they dissuade undecided voters from choosing their opposition!

Objectivity will be hard to achieve though, especially in America, partly because such vast amounts of money go to both parties , don’t they? Maybe in your country a first step would be some limit on how much campaigns can spend and complete transparency re donations, but I suspect that’s a pipe dream.

Still, we do have one thing to be thankful for: neither of our nations is a single party state. We may not get the government we think we chose, but we do get the chance to sack them every few years, and usually without bloodshed, burning buildings and “disappearances”.
