I think a little of it is the media. The story of how he and Nate Boyer talked out the protest and tried to find a way to keep the intended message while still seeming respectful has been completely drowned out.

I’m not sure any of the complainers even remember that he sat for the anthem, all focus has gone to kneeling as a sign of disrespect. I don’t think it is.
