How To: Win the World Series.

I grew up watching the Atlanta Braves on TBS from their first World Series Championship in 1995 to 2007 when TBS cancelled the partnership with the team. During that time, Erin Andrews made her debut commentating on the daily happenings in the MLB. Now she is covering major NFL games on ESPN and even the post game World Series interviews with MVP Salvador Perez.

But where does this tie in with How to Win a World Series? Am I a baseball player? No. I just told you that I watched games on TV. It is my belief that a team can go as far as their manager takes them. That means where he has been.

During the 1990’s and early 2000’s the Atlanta Braves were lead by Bobby Cox and went on to win 11 straight National League East titles. Winning only one World Series in 1995. Losing to Derek Jeter and the Yankees in 1996 and 1999. Those still sting. Ned Yost was the bullpen coach from 1991 to 1998, and then the third base coach from 1999 to 2002.

Since leaving the Braves, Yost spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers and for the last five seasons, the Kansas City Royals. Reaching the World Series two years in a row. How does someone like mold a group of guys that, “you don’t have to prod and encourage?” I think it comes from a mix of experience, mentorship and having support from your organization. Coach Yost explained in his post game interview that General Manager Dayton Moore, “knew what they were doing was right” and “weren’t going to be swayed by anyone else’s opinion.”

So what’s next after you do after you win a World Series? GATORADE SHOWER. Of course.
