Any allegation of a crime committed by a Black male results in that Black male receiving the treatment of someone who is guilty, regardless of whether he was found innocent in a court of law.
A concerted effort was made to sink Parker’s ship before it set sail, and it succeeded brilliantly. The charges against him weren’t new, but the multi-million dollar offers to carry his film were, and that didn’t sit very well for some people (and I’m sure the subject matter of his film was even more a cause of concern).
White America relishes the opportunity to preside over virtual lynchings of Black men when the real act is not physically possible. After hundreds of years we shouldn’t expect much of a moral evolution from our white brothers and sisters, and we should realize that the only people who are able to forgive and forget when it comes to transgressions committed by a Black male are other Black people.
That’s the way it has always been, the way it is now, and the way it will always be.
