The reason I stopped watching NBA and NFL games is not because of people like Kaepernick protesting, but the whole master/slave aspect of these professional sports.
Yes, the players are compensated nicely for their efforts, but watching the tryouts and the “trading” of players to this team or another, the way the players are required to run, jump, etc., the measuring of biceps, quads, etc. It’s all too similar to slave auction blocks. Add to this the fact that the one’s doing the judging, trading, etc., are often white men and many of the players are Black and what we end up with are well-paid slaves — any “slave” who gets too “uppity” is punished and shunned like Kaepernick.
The sports industry is full of racists (from the owners to the commentators and journalists) and the fans are some of the most vicious of them all. I’m waiting for the day when a handful of Black players decide to pool their resources into forming their own team (jointly owned by every team member), find a home city and compete against other NFL teams. That would at least remove the whole slavery analogue.
Until then, f-ck the NFL.
