These are simply jealous, envious lefties who are furious about your rising popularity (especially after that crazy Republican congresslady retweeted your piece on McCain).
I’ve read and enjoyed Counterpunch for many years and will continue to do so, but they occasionally publish articles that I 100% disagree with or they take, based on what they choose to publish, reveal some limitations to how they imagine their world to be. It’s like radical thought but with certain agreed-upon boundaries that causes them to completely shut down and are start labeling anyone who steps outside of their boundaries a fraud, apologist, or conspiracy theorist. I first noticed this tendency among leftists after 9/11.
I’m a leftist who also happens to believe the official 9/11 story was complete and utter bullshit, top to bottom (and there is overwhelming evidence to back that up, regardless of what “officialists” believe). Some of my left-leaning champions (Counterpunch, Chomsky, Zinn, etc) dismissed all questioning the official account as associates of Alex Jones-type right-wing nuttery. In their clearly-defined ideological boundaries, anything too far from official accounts (official meaning government or Washington Post) was some right-wing tinfoil witchery and they, being erudite leftists, would never be associated with that. I never really grasped how some of them could so vehemently and consistently preach the criminality, thuggishness and insaneness of the Bush regime’s neocons, yet so calmly believe these same lying jerks were being completely honest about 9/11. “Cheney’ bad sure, but even he has limits”. These people are what I like to call “safe” leftists — they want to challenge the system, but only to a certain extent.
Don’t let these people get to you. Keep saying what you want, how you want, and they’ll just have to be content to see your popularity rise even more.
