Have you read “The Free Press” by Hilaire Belloc? If not, you would get a kick out of it (warning that his comments about women’s suffrage are a bit odd from contemporary perspectives, but those are peripheral).

Belloc’s main point is that corporate media (in his day he was talking about newspapers) is fundamentally constrained by two factors, namely corporate ownership and dependence on advertising. If you get his points, what is going on here is crystal clear.
