Just put it down. There’s no “Life Back” App

I think it’s safe to say that if you’re looking at my post then you can relate to everything I’m about to say. I’m gonna shoot straight from the hip here, not fluff, no poetic, well thought out advice, just real thoughts we should all hear.

Your phone will never kiss you good night.

Your phone will never be excited you’re home.

Your phone will never say ‘I love you’

You’re given one life to live, don’t waste half of it staring into your phone or tablet. Take 5 seconds and think about the dumb crap you spend your time looking at versus the limited time you have to spend with those you love.

“But Chris, why is it limited?”

Glad you asked, here’s some personal context to put it in perspective:

I lost my dad on my 16th birthday, yes, right on my birthday. I spent way too much of my youth looking into a different kind of screen that was a absolute waste of time, video games (cell phones just came out and only had text games).

Time = Life

I missed so many chances to laugh, love and learn from the man. I will NEVER get that time back. But hey, I beat NHL 96 so that’s gotta count for something right? I look back and I’m honestly ashamed of myself.

I lost my mother 5 years later. My mother was my world and I spent my time partying, texting and painfully trying to browse the Internet on my Palm Pilot…the new generation has no clue what I’m talking about…. I had no family left, none, and learned to live completely alone. Think of all the time you waste on dumb stuff, seriously, take a second and reflect, I’ll wait here.

Now I’m gonna hit you with something I can promise you I think about every time I see an image like this, it literally haunts me if I think about it too long:

You will think of the hours you spent on FarmVille, candy crush and yes, even Medium, when you’re standing at a loved ones funeral, I promise you.

I didn’t mean to go so dark on you guys but I love you all and don’t want to see this happen to you. Life is short, spend it with the people you love. It’ll be more memorable than anything you’ll experience on a smartphone or tablet, trust me. Share this with anyone you care about.
