Our final design outcome for the Alternative Tourist Project is a pocket sized, 3 x 3 square brochure, including a map and information on the history of the route. Along with this, we also designed a logo and a map.

The ‘EH Mill Route’ provides a 1 day alternative tourist experience of Edinburgh. Escape the bustling city and view Edinburgh from a different perspective. The path will take you along a quiet and relaxing journey through the old mill villages of Edinburgh, while stopping at places of interest along the way.

EH Mill Route logo and map

Our logo and map as seen above. Our logo represents the water element of our walk, inspired by the Water of Leith, and the mill in the middle to represent its history. The logo itself is a waypoint.

As for the map, we decided to keep a colour theme going of navy and cream, as this makes the whole design come together. Our map shows the points of interest and the mills that can be found along the way.

Overall, our brochure with map provides tourists the opportunity of an alternative tourist experience. It is based along the Water of Leith through the old Mill villages of Edinburgh. Both the Water of Leith and the Old Mill Villages are not a usual tourist attraction, but we believe we’ve made these two places very interesting through our tourist route. Only the postcodes are provided in the Map Key to keep the whole experience interesting and surprising. Our Brochure and Map show a wide range of research into the Water of Leith and the History of the Mills.
