PAY THE PRICE, STAY THE COURSE

Growing up in Tsito in the 80s, our main sources of water supply were the rivers Agaɖevi, Ŋtsúme, Wuvɛme, Logbléme and Afibayɛme. Even though each of the six or seven communities at the time had a public stand pipe served by the reservoir at the foot of the mountain behind the Tsito E. P. Primary School, water hardly flowed through them. It was such exciting times going with friends to fetch water from the river.

Apart from Wuvɛme and Logbléme, which were easily accessible, the rest were quite hidden away either in rocky mountains or in the forest and under shrubs. Mostly, we trekked bushy paths to reach them. It was fun as it was scary especially if you were doing it alone.

A common site on the bushy paths was a fight for survival between snakes and frogs. One out of 7 times, we were likely to chance upon a snake trying to drag a frog from the path into the bush. It was quite feisty. The more the snake pulled the frog, the harder the frog tried to stay on the narrow path. The fight went on till people came upon them, and when they did, the natural reaction was to kill the snake. Once the snake was killed, the frog was liberated, sometimes, half dead, and as kids, we were told if we urinated on them, they'd survive. We did often and somehow, they did? But that was only possible because they refused to be overpowered and dragged into the bush.

There are two scenarios in which there's a practical difficulty in serving God faithfully; when everything is alright, you have a good job, great family, loads of cash to spend, able to afford luxuries of life etc. The other scenario is when you're at your lowest, at your wit's end, nothing is working, no jobs, loss of jobs, no stable relationship, in an unhappy marriage, no children or wayward children, you have applied all the tricks in all the books of the best entrepreneurs in the world but business just make slow. You see your mates making it big time... Look, if you're ever in any of these two states of life, you'd require greater grace to be able to serve God faithfully.

"But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen" ~ 1 Peter 5: 10-11.

May your anchor never shift in the storms of life. Receive grace to revere the Most High in good and in bad times.
