Hello there. I am currently decked in full pajama glory, sitting on a recycled aluminium chair in the fairy-lit communal garden of a ship container hostel in the Brazilian state of Paraná. The fresh smell of petrichor lingers in the air, along with the rapid spouting of languages I fail to recognize — not to mention the surprisingly refreshing español rendition of “Lean On” by Major Lazer blasting from speakers at the garden bar. Any surface that can be used as a makeshift table is littered with the remains of R4.99 (SGD1.90) 1-litre beer bottles or the free caipirinhas from the bar. I have the latter in my hand - I am floating with so much happiness and gratitude that I get to be here, living in the moment, sipping on this cuppa sunshine.

At this point, I would say that a year or so ago I never would’ve imagined that I would be here. But I say that all the time — I’d like to think of myself as an adventurous, spontaneous person and naturally I land myself in unexpected situations.

Life likes to throw me surprises, whether good or bad, and I can’t deny that either way, I love it. I’ve decided that perhaps for future reference and for nostalgia’s sake I should put them down somewhere so they don’t just exist in my head.

So here I am, and here this is. Hopefully whoever reads this enjoys reading this as much as I enjoy putting all my memories together x
