Jurassic World Dominion’s viral marketing campaign powered by Chronicle Media, revealed as award news breaks

Previously sworn to secrecy, Chronicle is proud to finally be able to announce its involvement with Dinotracker — a joint collaboration with fan-studio Chaos Theorem, Project C and Universal Pictures to create a highly innovative viral marketing campaign for Jurassic World: Dominion in Dinotracker.

It gets better: Dinotracker has just been awarded as a Silver Winner in the Entertainment category of the premier international awards competition for creative business and advertising, the Clio Awards.

Chronicle Media, the developing animation and creative studio responsible for creating Chronicle’s NFTs, was contracted by Universal Pictures to create Jurassic World: Dominion’ marketing campaign centred around the Dinotracker.com website and social content, creating seemingly real-life dinosaur sighting videos and images from across the in-universe globe, exciting — and sometimes even concerning — Jurassic fans and dinosaur lovers worldwide.

Resulting in over millions of views and social engagements, Dinotracker was an idea Jurassic World: Dominion director, writer and executive producer Colin Trevorrow had been working closely with Chronicle Media’s Tim Glover and Jack Ewins since 2018. It involved the creation of an in-universe website where amateur dinosaur sightings were seemingly reported to the ‘Department of Prehistoric Wildlife,’ and promoted to both educate and keep people safe. Of course, this was viewed by fans, driving greater anticipation for Jurassic World: Dominion’s release.

Chronicle, who had just received funding in 2021 to develop a Web3 animation studio for its digital collectibles platform, had the resources and talent to put together its A-game for Universal for a cost-effective budget.

Chaos Theorem and Chronicle Co-Founder Tim Glover said, “It was an exciting development. We worked closely with Colin Trevorrow on the idea shortly after Fallen Kingdom in 2018. Chronicle was able to provide the resources we needed to really take this to the next level.

The campaign contributed to the film’s commercial success, grossing $1 billion worldwide and becoming the second highest grossing film of 2022.

Dinotracker content released thus far

Chronicle Media created 24 videos, 27 images, plus more content for an ‘in-universe’ Twitter account showing realistic footage of the dinosaurs present in our world.

Our team was also tasked with writing lines of dialogue for the main cast of Dominion to read ‘in character’ and also edit the footage to be posted on the Twitter account.

Chronicle was also able to create two additional videos for TikTok influencers Alex Stemplewski and SeanDoesMagic, the latter of which has racked up 30+ MILLION views (at the time of this article).

US rock-legend Chris Daughtry also found himself running away from a flock of Pteranodons in an exciting encounter thanks largely to an opportunity provided by Project C, the dev builders of the Dinotracker website.

Legacy: From Jurassic World to Dominion

(2014–2022)

Chronicle founder Tim Glover, Head of Chronicle Media Jack Anthony Ewins, and Chronicle 3D Animator Manuel Bejarano have been working alongside Universal since 2014, creating all three viral campaigns for each new sequel, working closely with Director Colin Trevorrow and Universal Pictures digital marketing department. They have created an ever expansive world for Jurassic World fans to enjoy.
