Rise of the UX writer
Ben Moran

I think it’s orders of magnitude better to move technical writers into the UX writer role than it is to try and mold copywriters. Technical writers — at least those of us who have been trained in the discipline — already have the meeting-user-goals mindset when developing content, already understand minimalist writing, and already are embedded into the development team and development processes.

Joe Welinske, founder of the WritersUA and ConveyUX conferences and author of the book Developing User Assistance for Mobile Apps, once said in a conference presentation that when working on small-screen UI text, sometimes you have space for just one word, and its us technical writers that have the knowledge and experience to know what that one word is.
