Yes, cooking over open flame!

Well, I have other stories that have touched on such topics as canning and preserving, salting meats and fish for preservation, and even some information on electronics. I think that it is time to have some fun!

One of the best ways is cooking over FIRE, yes that is right a good old fashioned wood or charcoal fire. Not taking away from those who own gas/propane grills and stoves, as I own a propane grill myself, but also do some cooking over an open fire. Oh, I forgot that it is not just throwing some meat on a grill but with dutch ovens, castiron pans.

A pot of stew

Yes in deed, there are many ways to do this. One is like the photo above and I use it from time to time, and nothing better that a pot of stew like this while camping. One may also opt for this old school way

Cooking over ooen fire

This one is easy, and is a nice addition to ones backyard, or if you want, you may opt for the full outdoor kitchen.

Some plans are here

I like this one

But whatever you choose have some fun with it, and there is nothing more fun than sitting down to a meal cooked outdoors over a firepit, then afterwords sitting around it and enjoying company for friends and family.

Another way if you are into fishing, and say that you have caught some nice laketrout, or close to salmon fishing, is cooking it on a woodplank like we do here in Finland. You don’t need anything fancy, but it tastes yummy! IMHO.

So the choices are yours, but have fun with it.

Here is something that I will throw in here at the last and that is making your own charcoal, yes you can do that. Takes some time, but is well worth the effort and is some fun. Here is a link on how to make your own.

All of the pieces that I have written have been fun and intended for others to have some fun. Also, it is good to go back to doing some things that we used to, and to reconnect with what our ancestors did as well. Nowadays it is good to try and get as much wholesome food that we preserve and prepare ourselves not only for health and to avoid all of the additives, but just in case. As I read in a book and will use this line “Knowledge weighs nothing”. If anyone has questions and thoughts of what else needs to bew addressed, please feel free.
