It’s 2017 and creating passwords still suck. Here’s why..

Having a good password protects the user, the site, and other users on the site. I agree that password creation UIs are absurdly inconsistent and that many of them are laughably user hostile. The solution for these UI problems isn’t to abandon checking that a password is plausibly secure or to evangelize among those who create these UIs. It’s to make better tools that create good passwords and store them safely so the user doesn’t have to remember them. Inventing a good password off the top of one’s head isn’t a trivial task, and neither is remembering hundreds of them for different sites. Building a few good password manager programs is way more practical than is trying to fix thousands of half-baked password creation gatekeeper UIs.
