There Should be Written Law About Startup Shirts

Admit it. This is a problem. One of the first things most startups do is order custom shirts and apparel with their name and logo plastered about. That’s cool; I get it. They wear their heart on their sleeve….literally. What I fear is this action incorrectly adds unwarranted validation feelings towards their plans. I know because I’ve almost done it myself. The urge to order my very own shirt was so tempting. So very, very tempting. And when I turned down my plan to order shirts it felt like I was turning down an offer for food after starving for days. I hated the decision but it was the right move.

But it’s cheap marketing you say? Yes it is but that’s not my issue. My issue is the more than likely premature timing of the order. This is where Shirt Law comes into play. By law (hahaha I know this sounds ridiculous) you shouldn’t be able to order startups shirts unless you have made at least $1.00 in revenue. Yes a measly $1.00. This law would kill the custom shirt industry but in a world of twisted events this elimination of “marketing” would increase the success rates of startups. How so? Focus. Startups that are more likely to make a custom shirt order are more likely to fail in my opinion.
