Hamilton Designed a System to Stop Trump…It’s Called the Electoral College

The Electoral College isn’t going anywhere. It would take a constitutional amendment to abolish which means after two thirds of the House and two thirds of the Senate approve 3/4ths of the states must approve. Which means any 13 states can block abolishing the Electoral College. I live in a small state. Even the bluest of small states would refuse to ratify this. They would be ratifying themselves into irrelevance!

At the end of the revolution, there was absolutely no guarantee that we would remain the United States. There was every indication that we would a similar trajectory to that of Latin America when it won its independence from Spain. There is no United States of Latin America. The Electoral College is one of the reasons we did not follow their example. Were we to abolish the Electoral College, I would expect this country to break appart.
