So: male socialization teaches that men are essentially passive objects in attraction (like metal to magnets). Men often learn to identify themselves as being attracted to certain types. This denial of responsibility can cause significant self-doubt for those who seek mutual attraction with men and presents a man’s sexual interest as divorced from his self and from his feelings.
A surprising finding relative to “active male” theories of sexuality, but not actually incompatible.
