1. Behind the Rename

Today I changed the title of my blog from ‘Imagining Tomorrow’ to ‘Finding Satisfaction’. This came after staying awake 2 hours in bed last night, when I realized that I push myself to do too many things that aren’t natural to me.
I used to love blogging — I had written over 200 posts in a span of 3 years (2010–13) when I was regular on my earlier blog, Simple Catch (shout to my co-blogger and great friend, Ankit Vyas). I loved the freedom to write about almost anything that I observed / read / thought about. Since 2013, I seem to have been in a phase of self-doubt, questioning whether I’m ‘good enough’ to succeed in some sphere or the other. I moved away from the enjoyable hobby of blogging, because I felt I had to become an expert at something before I wrote a word. The intermittent posts that you see from mid-2013 on Simple Catch were all written either because the desire to just write became overwhelming, or because I made a few feeble attempts at resuming my once-loved hobby. In short, I raised the entry barrier for my writing by asking myself a limiting question: “Am I an expert in this?”
I’m tired of limiting myself that way. I’m going to start writing again for myself, heeding neither my ‘expertise’ nor my blog’s readership, because I love to write.
Now, why the change in focus of the blog? Finding satisfaction is a higher goal to me than forecasting the future. Finding satisfaction takes churning the past, imagining / building the future, all the while not forgetting to live in the present. It requires dwelling on things like meaning, relationships, service, humility, and motivation.
Here’s my promise:
- Being consistent: I will write something (anything) each day for the next 365 days.
- Being honest: I am not going to worry about sounding like a perfect guy.
- Being respectful: I won’t break any confidentiality, and in cases of personal conversations giving me ideas, I will not name or hint at who that person is.
Hope you find at least some sections of the blog helpful.
End of Day 1.
