Willpower Comes From Within: Use It or Lose It
1. control exerted to do something or restrain impulses. “most of our bad habits are due to laziness or lack of willpower”
Most of the world want to live their life with fulfillment but they lack the will to sustain through their tasks and plans that get them to where they want to be. You see, we often lose patient and quit to soon because nothing happen overnight.
The act of quitting is an act of lacking willpower.
Willpower is the essential virtue of a fully actualized life.
Your will does not have a mind of its own. It waits for you to give it instructions that will spur it into action. The more control you exert over it, the more powerful it will become.
The problem is that most people just don’t use their willpower. They blame everyone and everything thing except themselves.
- Those who have short temper will tell you, ‘I can’t help it, my parents was the same way.’
- Those who worry too much will tell you, ‘it’s not my fault, my job is too stressful.’
- Those who sleep too much will say, ‘what can I do, My body needs twelve hours of sleep a night.’
Such people lack the self responsibility that comes through learning the willpower which lies deep within everyone of us, waiting to be inspired into action. Will power is the ability to control your own mind, your own choices, your own actions and your own life.
Imagine what you could do if you doubled or tripled the amount of willpower that you currently have.
- You could get into that exercise regimen you have dreamed of starting.
- You could be more efficient with your time.
- You could eliminate the worry habit once and for all.
- You could become the ideal husband or wife.
You see, using your will allows your to rekindle the passion and energy for living that you seem to be saying you’ve lost it.
Using your willpower on a regular basis by deciding to do the things you know you should be doing even if you don’t feel like it will yield tremendous result in your life.
The journey of a thousand miles begins by taking the first step.
Start off small, whether that means
- Getting up earlier.
- Starting to walk around the block every night.
- Turning off distractions when you know you have had enough.
These small victories create momentum that grow your willpower capacity to do even more. We grow great by degrees. With consistency, you will soon be doing things you never knew you were capable of doing with even more vigor and energy you never thought you had.
The ability to do more with less energy and the ability to stay focus throughout all comes down to how much you train and use your will.
When your alarm clock rings,
get up instead of pushing snooze.
When you are going to have your breakfast,
choose a healthier meal — avoid fry, high sugar/salt, mayo sauce or frozen food.
When your mind had the thought of going to the gym,
get change and ahead to the gym. Even if it’s a short session of 15 minutes to 30 minutes, you’re in control of it.
When you’re doing your workout and you’re tired out but you left with 2 more reps,
do your best to finish two more. We usually think that it’s our limit but in reality, our body are way stronger what we think. Try it using your mind, you will be surprise how much more you can actually do.
By following through on a resolution as simple as getting up earlier every day, you will feel the pleasure and gratification that achievements brings.
Most people will fail in the mind if they’re delusional and keep doing the same thing over and over again for a long time waiting for the things to happen.
Remember, your will is build up along with patient. Patience help to build a strong foundation for your will when you start to practice using it by controlling ‘your life’ daily. And when you start struggling with being impatient and so caught up with short term gratifications, instead of quitting too soon, your will power steps in to remind you your main purpose and give you the little mind power to push through it to continue striving towards a fulfilling life.
Try tapping into your willpower — be in control of it, control your thoughts, your mind, your actions and just watch what will happen in a matter of weeks. Be patient.
