While I get, and fully acknowledge your point, I’m of the opinion that our own standards are deplorably lower. We have to learn to walk before learning to run.
I initially didn’t want to mention the Fareed Zakaria case, but let me just put it in since that’s in a society that doesn’t condone plagiarism. Fareed has been accused, not once, but three times of lifting stuff. On the one time the evidence was unassailable, someone, a member of his staff, took the fall.
Which brings me back to Nigeria. We do not even acknowledge that plagiarism is wrong, much less punish, so it will be, at this point, a step too far expecting Buhari to get punished for it. The best we can hope for at this point in our evolution is for Buhari to acknowledge it, say that there can’t be impunity amongst his staff, and then punish the guilty party for it.
