Random thoughts on the farming drive

There are 2.2 million farms in the US employing 3.2 million people, or 0.98% of the population.

The UK employs less than half a million people (1.5% of its workforce) in agriculture, and produces about 60% of what it eats.

Israel, with only 20% of its land arable, has an agriculture industry that employs 3.7% of its entire workforce. Israel produces 95% of its own food.

China has 300 million farmers, 21.8% of their population. Part of their Four Modernisations campaign is reducing this large number of farmers, and replacing them with modern practices, to remove inefficiencies. The Chinese have been at it, with consistency, since 1978.

So let us ask, if everyone thinks that less people in the farms is the way to go, why does Nigeria want everyone back in the farms?
