Want to Be Heard? Call, and Be Yourself
Short of physically getting in front of your representative, the best way to potentially make a difference is to call them.
Social feeds are now full of online petitions and email addresses that cater to the busy “resister” — that is, someone who wants to do something, but may find it hard to find the time. Bad news, busy people — those quick hit actions aren’t likely to do much.
To have a chance of having your opinion matter, you need to get on the horn. Or so says this blog from Josh O’Connor, which also offers a couple of additional helpful points. In summary:
- (as mentioned) Call, don’t just email or sign the online petition
- Tell your own story, don’t read a script
- A human rights group, The Leadership Conference, provides information on how to call your member of Congress
Inconvenient, I know. But so is living under totalitarian rule.
