There is a more fundamental argument to suggest that free money is actually bad for people psychologically, as it breaks the connection with the structures that are beyond their control and actually provide meaning to their lives.
What gives meaning to people’s lives is overcoming real challenge and helping others do so. In this context free money is actually bad for people, because it takes away the challenge of life.
Here is a better proposal for UBI that actually accounts for the deep innate need for personal responsibility, as well as our need to be connected and civic.
