I agree with you on that. But in my opinion, your conclusion holds valid for stable users who have habituated the twitter environment, by gradually establishing disproportion between content consumption and contribution. For the new users, I think it is better to get the ‘my first tweet’ workflow executed as soon as possible. That way, one of the key value propositions of the product would have been experienced.
Btw, I am just postulating my argument based on what I think is conservatively logical and obvious. The truth from actual user behavior could be very far from it. You will have more research-based insight into this.
