Daily Devotional: Your Words Reveal Your Heart

The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. Proverbs 10:20 ESV

The words we speak are revealing to our deepest thoughts. The words we speak reveal the wickedness in our heart, but the wickedness is usually far worse than what our words reveal. When we allow curse words, gossip and unrighteous things come from our mouth we reveal the state of our heart. If our tongue is used for praise, encouragement, and truth than we speak with righteousness. One phrase or one conversation may not reveal the condition of your heart, but what does the sum of your words say about you.

Extended Version:

Our actions and words speak the truth about our hearts. We may deceive people for awhile, but the true nature of your intent will eventually come out. We must be honest with ourselves and with God. We must share the good, bad and ugly with God and let Him sort through it. We need Jesus to change us from the inside out through the Holy Spirit. The heart is deceitful and we must not trust it above God and His Word. We must see ourselves through the eyes of God. We must saturate ourselves with God’s word, so that our minds change, so that our hearts change, which will change our speech.

Challenge:

Take a moment at the end of your day and review all the conversations, texts and any other type of socializing you have had today. What did your words say about you?

Prayer:

Lord, I simply want to speak things that are glorifying to you. I want to represent you will at all times, amen!

Additional Scripture:

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. Matthew 12:35 ESV

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9 ESV
