Skies Clearing After Snow (Yang Wenli [16th century])
Through the night snow fell heavily,
Grayish clouds blurring distant skies.
Dawn comes and I watch the clearing scene,
Splendor sparkles against the curtains and lattice.
Over pure white isles fly wild geese in the cold,
A jasper picture from a skilled painter’s hand.
When the bright moon rises over the eastern mountains
I stand, it seems, within a vessel of jade.
