Andrea Arnold is a British filmmaker, screenwriter, and television director who centers her cinematic works on an intimate and visceral exploration of human relationships.

Her films are characterized by a raw and unflinching depiction of the realities of working-class life in Britain.

Arnold’s first short film, Milk, won the 1998 Academy Award for Best Short Film, and she went on to make a series of groundbreaking shorts including Dog, Wasp, and Red Road, which won the 2006 Cannes Jury Prize.

In 2009, Arnold made her feature directorial debut with Fish Tank, a critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama that won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is a haunting and powerful exploration of the struggles of adolescence, and the complex relationships between parents and their children. Arnold has achieved remarkable success with other films such as Wuthering Heights, and American Honey.

Her style is characterized by a naturalistic, observational, and intimate portrayal of working-class life, often combined with surreal elements that highlight the inner struggles of her characters.

Arnold’s films are rooted in authenticity, as she strives to capture the essence of the places she depicts and the people who inhabit them.

Her last documentary “Cow” (2021), a close-up portrait of the daily lives of two cows, got her several nomination including a BAFTA nomination for Best Documentary.

As she continues to develop her craft, we can expect to see more groundbreaking work from this talented filmmaker.

Fish Tank and Cow are available on Prime Video, Google Play and iTunes.
