Not Voting Is Not an Option
When Dems and progressives don’t vote, the Tea Party and Drumpf rises up, gets elected, and takes away the public sector.
Because I know you need your giant brains tickled before you do anything about it, watch this, laugh, and remind yourself of the deadly seriousness when fundamentalists with no experience in public governance are elected to public government.
It’s GOTV time, left leaning (and sane) friends. It’s ours to lose. And we’ve been losing for years when we should have been winning and putting legacy policies in place to manage climate risk, protect and strengthen public education and arts funding, stop police and state violence, rebuild infrastructure, provide health care access including abortion, practice diplomacy, stop dropping bombs in name of security, regulate banks and corporations, you know, stuff MOST PEOPLE WITH SKIN can use politics to work through together by electing progressives. (Yes, I’m aware that the left is dealing with an ideological schism too, the neoliberals are in fact terrifying, but guess what? NOT VOTING IS NOT THE ANSWER.)
Ask yourself, what can I do to make sure Dems vote? In the presidential primary and general yes, but every time too. Then GO DO IT. I’m researching orgs to work with, I’ll share what I find out. This post is public, please share it. Use the comments to put in links to orgs in your area where people can do GOTV work. Think big! Doesn’t have to be/should not be limited to a candidate. Think about where you gather. Do you go to church? Are you in a union? Do you have a book club? Or maybe fantasy baseball league? (Go Giants, obvi.) Where you gather is who you should commit to voting with. Vote in groups. Talk about voting. Make a commitment with each other to vote. Drive young voters and old voters to the polls. What easy steps can you take to get yourself and others to the polls?
Scoot. Go save our country.
